Juan De La Arena
“The health of every system in the body depends on good movement.”
– Professor Stuart McGill
Introducing Juan Agustin de la Arena, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Level 3 Trainer at Fitness Playground Surry Hills.
Juan is a professional strength and conditioning coach with a think-outside-the-box approach. He has more than 10 years of experience practicing sports from martial arts to bodybuilding. He’s trained and taught everyone from the general population to pro athletes. No matter who the client is, he can teach them to unleash their true potential through quality movement.
He’s serious about the science behind training, is committed to constant development and always seeking to learn from the experts around him. On the other hand, he loves to joke around. You’ll hear his extremely loud laugh from across the gym.

My philosophy is that you must fall in love with the process. Sometimes training involves doing the same movements repeatedly until you master them to conquer your weaknesses. However, every single conquer becomes more enjoyable if you can see the value behind that goal achieved. To be disciplined is hard, we all know that, but you will find the fulfilment of making it happen once you get there.

PT Client Reviews
“I began training with Juan in June 2020 and came to him with a painful back injury, that was always a point of weakness in the past that I couldn’t seem to curb.
It had hit its all-time worst and was suspected I had a disk bulge pressing on a nerve. I was struggling to stand up, sit down and complete any basic movements as they triggered sharp pain. Now, I can do most things without discomfort, which is huge.”
“Juan quickly identified the issue and was extremely patient and generous with his time, explaining everything in depth and designing a program that included spinal hygiene exercises to do at the gym and from home multiple times a day, as well as a training program I could complete within my range of movement.
He even evaluated my work desk set-up/habits outside of the gym. I quickly began to improve my training technique and strength. We focused on abdominal bracing and glute strengthening. Within a matter of weeks of following the program, I was pain free and have become stronger than I ever imagined lifting weights I assumed would always be too heavy or pain triggering. Under Juan’s training & supervision, I have been pain free for almost one year now and look forward to training with him and continuing to receive his expertise and guidance!”
“I’ve been having back issues for the past 3 years, after playing basketball all my life. After having an MRI, I was diagnosed with a spine injury and I was recommended to swim to strengthen my core, but the pain continued when I was working, sleeping or just walking.
After meeting Juan, he invited me to do an assessment to check how he could help me, and since then I started to train with him, and my back pain has been reduced by 80-90% compared to what it was before. I am so happy with the outcome after a few months, and I’ll keep training hard to keep my back safe.”
